Cobb Commission Makes Changes to Public Comment Rules

The Cobb Board of Commissioners has recently implemented amendments to the guidelines governing public commentary during its meetings. The alterations include an expansion of available public comment slots from 12 to 20, accompanied by a reduction in speaking time from five minutes to three minutes per individual. Furthermore, participants are now limited to a single speaking slot per session. The board has also condensed the period allocated for commissioners' responses following the public commentary segment. While there was preliminary consideration for the inclusion of audiovisual presentations during these sessions, the decision has been deferred for future deliberation. Additional modifications include a restriction on commissioners to one presentation each meeting, the introduction of regulations against campaign activities, and adjustments to the criteria for permissible comments. These revisions were enacted despite reservations expressed by Commissioner Birrell.
