Episode 52: Bonus Interview with Elizabeth Mikotowicz-From Prison to Purpose.

I had the honor of interviewing Elizabeth Mikotowitz who was in her 20’s and she barely made it out alive. The system was supposed to protect her from her aggressor. She was vulnerable and seeking help in a woman’s shelter. They turned her away unfortunately. I know this felt like a huge let down because a system that is built to house women who have gone through abusive relationships violently was not willing to put the other women at risk. I say to this all the women at the shelter were abused violently so to say she was putting them at risk is a one-sided conundrum. Elizabeth was between life and death fighting to survive. The system went yet again when she refused pharmaceutical drugs, and we speak on how Doctors are in bed with the pharma companies. What happens when unlikely sources are the ones to help you. She went to prison for a non-violent offense. She started painting murals as a therapeutic and gift to the other women that were housed at the federal prison with her. I will include her page to purchase her handcraft are work. I can’t express how talented her art pieces are. I have seen her artwork. I will leave it at the bottom so you guys can take a look at the beautiful art she has created. She is a mother, warrior, and an advocate who works with law makers for better laws. She has seen firsthand how the criminal justice system has internal systemic racism. We speak about the patriarchy how we have so many rights because of them but now they don’t know how to accept it instead women get regulated. Women should have full autonomy of their own bodies especially when there are Men who should be held equally responsible. We should not be castigated for what our bodies do natrually. “According to the research reported by the associated press Women greatly outnumbered by men in political power | AP News “When it comes to political power, women are totally outnumbered by men, accounting for less than 7 percent of the world’s leaders and only 24 percent of lawmakers, according to the latest statistics. Our bodies are not political debates, nor should they be discussed in politics by men. It baffles me when they themselves came directly from a woman’s anatomy to sit in congress and make decisions that do not pertain to their own anatomy. Why are men’s vasectomies not discussed? It takes two people to procreate a human life. The conversation shifts from what has impacted women because of it. I also find the number of domestic violence statistics to be quite telling. We need to foster better relationships and hold not one gender accountable over another. According to “Statistics (ncadv.org)

FACTS: In the United States, more than 10 million adults experience domestic violence annually.

1.) 1 If each of these adults experienced only one incidence of violence, an adult in the US would experience violence every three seconds. However, because domestic violence is a pattern, many experiences repeated acts of abuse annually, so an incident of abuse happens far more frequently than every three seconds.

2.) 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men experience sexual violence, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime with ‘IPV-related impact’ such as being concerned for their safety, PTSD symptoms, injury, or needing victim services.

3.) Approximately 1 in 5 female victims and 1 in 20 male victims need medical care.

4.) Female victims sustain injuries 3x more often than male victims.4 o 1 in 5 female victims and 1 in 9 male victims need legal services. 23.2% of women and 13.9% of men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime. From 2016 through 2018 the number of intimate partner violence victimizations in the United States increased 42%. On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive over 19,000 calls. An abuser’s access to a firearm increases the risk of intimate partner femicide by 400%. In 2018, partner violence accounted for 20% of all violent crime.10 • Intimate partner violence is most common against women between the ages of 18-24.11 • 19% of intimate partner violence involves a weapon.” This does not include the statistics of sexual assault, Stalking and Homicide. I will link the sources because these numbers are telling and the fact that the laws remained unchanged or nearly not pivot enough, we should question what these lawmakers in congress care about unless it serves their own personal interest. I loved having Elizabeth as a guest on the show because she is doing the leg work. I am proud of her accomplishments from surviving to thriving. She is not a victim but a victor. I want to thank her for extending herself and coming on my show and speaking about the personal impact it has had on her life.

About Elizabeth

In her 20's she barely survived a very violent relationship; he assaulted her with a wooden dowel, and you could see her skull when it happened. The Doctor’s gave her opioids, when she refused, they threatened her with child protective services because she was pregnant and refusing medical advice. She Was told she was on to small a dose to get addicted. Eventually she went to the DV shelter and was turned away, they said her injury was too severe and it put the other women in danger. She survived because drug dealers helped her - or took advantage depending how you look at it. She eventually went to federal prison for a non-violent drug charge. She endured and witnessed so much institutional abuse, corruption, systemic racism and cruelty; sometimes she still wakes up screaming. But! She's turned it all around, launched an environmentally friendly feminine brand that's being sold in stores and comes in plus sizes. She has gotten bills put on the table and passed for the good of the people- not corporations and institutions. She is letting the world know what America "land of the free", is doing to its incarcerated population, which is the highest rate in the world. She is also exposing other systemic abuse and corruption that effects Americans every day. She is sharing her healing journey and what she has learned about her own trauma and mental health.

From prison to purpose! Overcoming trauma, addiction, domestic violence, traumatic brain injury, abusive corrupt institutions and mental health issues! Prison artist to environmentally friendly fashion designer (comes in plus sizes) inclusive to everyone. Convict to working with state representatives and getting bills passed! Exposing this corrupt dystopian nightmare, we are living through and fighting for equality for everyone!

The sources below were pivitoal for my research to bring the most transparency and up to date statistics. This is the link to her environmentally friendly clothing brand; EPM CLOTHING. Elizabeth painted all the designs, and it can be ordered in plus sizes, made in Canada. My mission with this brand is to empower anyone who identifies with the divine feminine and empower them with confidence and inner strength. I painted all of these during my own healing journey.
