John the Baptist was locked up in prison, and in prison, he was most likely beaten but also given autonomy where he sent his disciples away to ask if Jesus was the "coming one." Jesus answers him with action, miracles, signs, and wonders, and a praise report of the work of John the Baptist and speaks to his identity and purpose.
