Lady Bird directed by Greta Gerwig is a coming-of-age drama that focuses on the relationship between a 17-year-old girl and her mother. The film is attracting so much attention right now, and rightly so. Gerwig’s approach to filmmaking is a fresh, unique and insightful perspective on human interactions. The film includes academy award nominee Saoirse Ronan and newcomer Timothee Chalamet, who is also buzzing for his other film. On the press junket for “Lady Bird” Met Radio Dj Dayna Himot and Metrosphere’s Teresa Diaz Soriano had the opportunity to participate in a college conference call with the actor, screenwriter. Gerwig talks about the film’s music, her love for New York and the process of creating the critically acclaimed film. “I’ve made it a goal as a writer and now as a director to tell stories about women and [their] primary emotional relationship is one between two women.” Gerwig said. “In “Frances Ha” it was between two friends, in “Mistress America” it was between two stepsisters and in this movie it’s between a mother and daughter, and I don’t feel pressure to make these movies. Gerwig feels that in Hollywood these movies aren’t as easily green-lit but it is in this aspect of storytelling she would to continue. Listen below to the full podcast for more from Gerwig followed by Theresa and Dayna's recap.
