GODZILLA MONSTER PLANET (aka GODZILLA PLANET OF THE MONSTERS) is the new and exciting film for the Big-G. On this episode of Trapped in The Screening Room, I look at the first Godzilla Anime film. And of course, this is not only great news for anime fans, but this film also serves as the first in a trilogy of new Big-G films. Produced hot off the heels of SHIN GODZILLA, MONSTER PLANET pushes the genre to new lengths. Sadly, the results are a mixed bag for better or worse. We take a deeper look at this film’s production, the animation company Polygon Pictures, and plot details. As the review itself moves on, I question the direction of the next two films (with the second debuting in May 2018). Being co-produced by Netflix, this movie also joins the ranks of other Japanese franchises that have rebooted in strange ways. We also touch on the new DIGIMON films, DRAGON BALL SUPER, and the Live-action ATTACK ON TITAN films. Speaking of animation, we take a deeper look at both the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla cartoon series, and the late 90’s/ early 2000’s Godzilla The Series. The 1970’s Hanna-Barbera series added elements of their flagship shows like Scooby Doo to add to the Kaiju craziness. As for GODZILLA THE SERIES, I look at its origins and how it was spawned off the heels of The Roland Emmerich directed GODZILLA (1998). Not to mention how the series improved and expanded on that Blockbuster film. Also brought up was the Marvel comics subseries of Godzilla adventures. Asides from GODZILLA MONSTER PLANET, I also spotlight some of the other films in the second half after a quick music break. What do GODZILLA (1954), GMK, and KING KONG VS GODZILLA (1962) have in common? There all in my top 10 Godzilla list. So be sure to check it out. Movie Rating: GODZILLA PLANET OF THE MONSTERS (2017) 2.5/5
