An American cycling pioneer, Andy Hampsten charged onto the European cycling scene in the 1980’s and quickly established himself as a talented stage racer, winning the Giro d’Italia and two Tours of Switzerland. Hampsten also shined in the Tour de France, twice getting 4th overall, and winning the prestigious Alpe d'Huez stage.

Listen to Andy’s inspiring story of grit and determination as he ascended the ranks to become a champion professional cyclist. He talks about racing with the legends of cycling like Greg Lemond and Bernard Hinault on the famous La Vie Claire team.

It was with the support of the 7-Eleven cycling team that Andy won the 1988 Giro d’Italia. Andy recounts the infamous Passo di Gavia stage of that year’s Giro, where freezing conditions challenged the peloton.
