Mark “Jimmy” Essex joined the Navy at the advice of his father because it was the least “racist.” But after joining, Jimmy realized racism was everywhere and he became disillusioned as a young black sailor. After he was discharged from the Navy, he got more and more angry at the perceived racism in the country (during the 70's), so he decided to take matters in his own hands and he began his own personal war with the NOLA police department.

But this story isn’t only about the life and death of Jimmy and the 9 people who he killed. This story is about a hero named Charles Pitman, a U.S. Marine pilot who decided to take matters into his own hands, when he heard about the ongoing situation in downtown NOLA.

Dig in with Margot as she tells you one story about two servicemen – one died a murderer, while the other shined as a hero.
