In this episode of the Millennial Pioneers Podcast, Sammy will be interviewing Jen about her experiences (all very different) of birthing her three children at home naturally...yes homebirth, folks.

This is a very near and dear topic to me, as I have found that women freely share scary stories of hard births, but I find women shying away from telling their positive birth stories in fear of the "good for you" energy coming back to them.

I feel this isn't serving us well, ladies.

The more fear we hear, the more fear we have... and the harder it can become to have a normal, healthy birth process naturally.

So I really want to start telling more positive birth stories, and hearing more of them...how about you?

This is not to discount the hard, even traumatic birth stories, not one little bit. Those were very real and scary situations... but this is to say "let's start telling the positive stories, too" to even out the balance a bit. Because even though you may not hear a ton of positive stories, there are so many of them. There are some incredibly beautiful stories out there... and I really encourage you to start here, but then dig deeper into podcasts, books, and through word of mouth of all the incredible stories that are out there as well.

Here's what you'll hear in this episode on Natural Childbirth and Home birth:

First of all, thank you so much to all of you who submitted such thoughtful and curious questions!

  • Why did you consider home birthing in the first place?
  • Did you consider other birth options?
  • Share your home birth stories!
  • What did your other kids do (in the house?) while you were in labor?
  • Was it messy?
  • What happens if you need a doctor?
  • What would you feel you need to know about home birthing to choose to go that route?
  • What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
  • What roles do they have in the birth process?
  • Our cultural messaging around birth is pretty clear: "It is extremely painful!" What was your experience like and what wisdom would you like to share with women who desire to have a natural birth free of medications, epidurals or other medical interventions?
  • What surprised you the most about your home-birth experience or just birth in general?
  • Any tips for partners and how they can be best involved and supportive both during labor and early postpartum?
  • What did you do ahead of time to prepare for the postpartum period? What did you find helpful or not helpful?
