Der Nobelpreis für Physik ging 2014 an die Entwickler der blauen LED, weil sie die Grundlage für eine umweltschonende und energiesparende Beleuchtung geschaffen hätten. In der Begründung hieß es, die Menschheit habe ihnen "die Neuerfindung des weißen Lichts" zu verdanken. Doch von den Menschen angenommen worden wäre die Erfindung nicht ohne die Entdeckung des Grundlagenforscher-Teams um Professor Wolfgang Schnick vom Department Chemie der LMU München. Denn sie haben das warm-weiße Licht neu erfunden.
