Government Interview - Senator Sara Howard Link to photos https://nebraskalegislature.gov/senators/pictures.php?SenatorID=109 Senator Sara Howard was born and raised in District 9. Sara was elected to serve in the Nebraska Legislature representing District 9 on November 6, 2012 with 66% of the vote. After getting her undergraduate degree from Smith College, Sara received her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law with specialty certificates in Tax Law and Child/Family Law. She is a grant writer and most recently served as Development Specialist for OneWorld Community Health Centers. Senator Howard is committed to protecting Nebraska's working families, seniors and our children. Prior to her work at OneWorld, Sara worked at the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition in Chicago. As a staff attorney for a non-profit organization advocating on maternal and infant health policy, Sara successfully procured grants, founded an organizational chapter, managed member communications, created an Association Board, conducted policy research and presented on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Sara also had the opportunity to clerk in the Juvenile Court of Douglas County, Nebraska while in law school. Sara served as Co-President of the Smith College Alumnae of Chicago Executive Board from 2008 until April 2011. She is a member of several civic organizations including the League of Women Voters and she volunteers for the Friends of the Omaha Public Library, Film Streams Ruth Sokolof Theatre and the Joslyn Castle Trust. Additionally, Sara is a devoted cat owner to Murray and August and she enjoys crafting, letterpress and cooking.
