SMBD (aka Simbad) is one of the most prolific and eclectic producers in dance music, with a list of original, remixes, collaborations and uncredited performances that runs for pages and pages. Never one to be pinned down, he makes whatever he feels, from ‘bruk’ house and garage through to soulful bass excursions and global beats. Part of Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide and Brownswood roster, he has been on fine form recently with releases on Apron and Local Talk and his disco cut-up bomb Captain on our Dialogue Vol. 2 vinyl EP. His mix for us is a serious treat, spanning myriad styles and comprising solely of unreleased demos, dubs and collaborations.
*How would you describe your sound?*
I guess its soul music. My aim is to make timeless shhh. And i work with electronics, digital & analog machines to live instruments and vocals. I'd say most of my stuff is also dancefloor orientated.
*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*
Travelling. Movement. Friends. Women. Mysteries of the Universe. Musicians and fellow music makers & DJs. Too many to mention.
*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*
This is just a selection of unreleased stuff from the last few years, almost like a showreel, labels are welcome to holla if there's something they're feeling. I've got tons more hahaha...
