A Christchurch woman lost her dog of seven years because she couldn't pay the pound fee in time. Dogs that are unclaimed after seven days become the property of the council and they can be adopted or put down. The woman came to pick up and pay the fee for her dog after 10 days but was devastated to find it had been given to another family.
