Ever wondered how a leasing consultant, who may not have the purchasing power of their affluent clients, can effectively sell luxury living experiences? In the late 2000s, we faced a challenge with our leasing consultants at a class-A luxury community. They were fantastic individuals but lacked experience in catering to a high-end clientele. To address this, we devised an innovative solution: We gave them cash and sent them to Nordstrom to immerse themselves in renowned customer service. They went through the entire purchase and return process, learning firsthand the excellence expected in high-end retail. This practical experience was invaluable. Instead of theoretical training or role-playing, our consultants lived the luxury experience, creating a vivid picture of superior customer service. To further enhance their understanding, we invited them to dine at The Met, a premier restaurant in downtown Seattle—on us! This allowed them to experience top-tier service and atmosphere, allowing them to understand what our luxury clients expect. By investing in these real-world experiences, our leasing consultants gained the insights needed to effectively serve and sell to a luxury demographic.
