They make you believe that you can trust them and that they are a good person. They make you feel like your life is so much better because of them. The majority of these people have narcissistic tendencies and tend to have underlying mental health conditions that have gone untreated for too long. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fifth edition, or DSM-5 for short, states that a person with Narcissistic Personality Disorder must possess at least 5 of the 9 criteria they have listed. These criteria are; grandiosity, continually demeaning, bullying and belittling others, exploiting others for their own personal gain, lack of empathy for the negative impact they have on people’s feelings and emotions, a fixation on fantasies of power, success and intelligence, a self-perception of being unique and superior, a need for continual admiration from others, a sense of entitlement to special treatment and intense envy of others. Eventually, these mental illnesses and narcissistic qualities will more than likely lead to the occurrence of much more serious offences than simply manipulating another person. Typically, a much darker side of that individual will emerge in the end.
