Join Chelsea and David LIVE in the studio this morning for a wrap up on ***reconciliation week*** 2024. They reflect on the limitations of reconciliation week in a country that still can’t talk honestly about racism, and the irony of “hoping” for reconciliation while refusing to acknowledge the violence of racism in the everyday lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They enjoy Tony Armstrong’s proposal for a RESTITUTION week to replace reconciliation week, and David courageously commits to giving up the butterscotch cupcakes in favour of an anti-racism grounded in Indigenous sovereignty, self-determination, and struggle. Chelsea and David then turn their gaze onto the sporting field: from this week’s viral clip of a 9 year old boy, tearfully reflecting on racial violence, to the continued targeting of Latrell Mitchell, to the failure of the Australian Human Rights Commission to resolve the complaints about racism at Hawthorn football club. And in true Let’s Talk Black Knowing tradition, they invite us to think about the politics of “expertise” in the colony: who gets platformed, amplified, and authorised to speak on matters of race, gender, and “progress,” and what can we learn from the people left out of the category of “expert”?

Another epic episode of Let’s Talk Black Knowing, and the perfect way to start your week with critical reflection and what-can-you-do-but-laugh conversation with everyone’s favourite Nerds on the Frontline.
