Told You I’d Be With The Guys – Cherry Glazerr (2017, Apocalipstick LP)
I had been hearing about Cherry Glazerr for a while now, so when I saw they would be playing Capitol Hill Block Party and made them a priority, and holy shit was I glad that I did. Despite having an all around great stage presence, their songs are filled with sick riffs, catchy lyrics, and dreamy synths that you can’t help but find yourself moving to. Definitely looking forward to watching this band flourish in the next few years.

No Future – Conveyer (2017, Single)
This is a genre I am not very familiar with but Damien apparently is. This metalcore band caught my attention mainly due to the drums and the guitar riffs because as you will hear they kick ass. Listening to lyrics of this type of music is something I still need to get down and I had no idea what this song was about until I read the lyrics online. This type of music is generally not for me but there is just too much about this song that sticks out and shines through to make a true excellent song.

PTP – Black Joe Lewis (Backlash, 2017 LP)
Austin is of course no stranger to funk & blues bands, but Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears are at the forefront of the scene in the live music capital of the world. Keep an eye out as I will definitely be featuring the side projects and other bands of the artist in Black Joe Lewis.

Favorite Game (Ft. Lucy Michelle) – Toussaint Morrison, Lucy Michelle (2017, Lesser Restoration)
A very strong hip hop song about the strengths and weaknesses of an individual and how that effects others. This is song reflects very well on the lyricism of the artist and the locals of the featured artist, Lucy Michelle. Softly opens and waines in an out of easy to listen to hip hop lyrics with great backing vocals. This song and all of Toussaint’s other songs are very easy to listen to and grasp the understanding of the story. This makes sense as Toussaint is a slam poet and an apparently great one at that seeing as hes won multiple national awards.

Down (Feat. Joi) – Run The Jewels (Run The Jewels 3, 2016 LP)
For a long time Hip Hop & Rap were not on my music radar, it seemed that most of it was just regurgitated, pointless, and bland. So when I heard El-P and Killer Mike were teaming up for a new project it made me geek. Three albums in and I don’t expect for these two to be slowing down at all in the coming years.

Whatever – The Beths (2016, Warm Blood)
A band from New Zealand fronted by Liz Stokes, this band is a classic style surf rock-y sound. Something that your dad and your dad’s dad can dig into and enjoy. The video is an extension of the sound too a little quirky but not harsh at all. More sweet, sweet easy listening to music and a total opposite of the first band.
