Expressions such as "the fathers of independence" and "One man, one vote" have become commonly used in African history. These expressions imply that only men liberated Africa from its settlers, and they relegated in anonymity, the thousands of women who fought nobly. To talk about this role of women, Sankofa is honored today to have a pioneer, a Guinean, a historian, who will pilot the next two episodes. Mrs. Barry Nantenin Camara, the first woman registered at the Polytechnic Institute of Conakry, a former minister, whose contribution to her country was recognized through the national Medal of Honor. Having retired, she is an active militant for the advancement of women in her country
