Doctors in a world of automation Today, on Surviving Automation (My Garage Academy #26), we take a look at how automation and artificial intelligent computers will impact Doctors and Computer Programmers. In order to be a doctor, a person must spend ten years learning all the information needed to be considered qualified. Making a mistake can mean killing someone, so it is very important that the doctor knows their stuff. I am thankful that smart people spend a decade learning so they can stitch me up, restart my heart and remove my appendix. What if a computer could learn all the medical knowledge known by the human species in twenty minutes, and then use the constantly improving database of medical research and real time treatment results to diagnose me using the phone in my pocket? How do you think that will change the medical field? Will we need as many doctors? What happens when the artificial intelligent medical computers become so good that they rarely give a mistaken diagnosis, and they can administer the treatments, medicines, surgeries and therapies with more efficiency and higher safety levels than people. Won’t people demand to be treated by robots? Will people starting thinking that is crazy to go to a human doctor who could make a mistake? I believe that someday soon people will cringe at the thought of an scalpel in the hands of a human doctor. I would love to hear your thoughts on my speculation in the comments. http://www.healthcentral.com/slideshow/8-ways-artificial-intelligence-is-affecting-the-medical-field#slide=3 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2813303/Google-reveals-developing-computer-smart-program-ITSELF.html https://www.wired.com/2016/05/the-end-of-code/
