Although the Zodiac Killer claimed in messages to newspapers to have committed thirty-seven murders, investigators agree on seven confirmed assault victims, five of whom died and two survived. He sent more than 20 written communications to police officials, newspapers, and individuals between 1966 and 1974 during his "reign of terror". So who is the Zodiac but more importantly why has the Zodiac become such a staple in the true crime world?
