It is estimated that Olivier Levasseur stole over £1 billion in today's value from raiding ships throughout the Caribbean, the coast of South America, and the Indian Ocean. Not to mention his biggest act of piracy would be used by Robert Louis Stevenson in his novel Treasure Island. His successes granted him the title as one of the most successful pirates of his time. However, he was captured and hung in 1730 but his massive amount of treasure was never found. Legend says that before his execution, he threw his necklace with the cryptogram into the crowd and shouted "Find my treasure, the one who may understand it!"
