This week, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz restarted the debate over school violence, guns, mental health and alienated youth. Cruz did all this when he walked into a high school --- his old high school -- in South Florida and killed 17 students and teachers. Our instinct is to call people like this "monsters" who He was obviously lost, confused and in pain, following the death of his mother -- who adopted him. Red flags were literally everywhere; social workers, police, therapists all knew about his troubled teen. They all said he was not dangerous. They were very wrong.
