A controversial Texas law banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect on Sept. 1, 2021. Senate Bill 8 bans abortions after medical professionals can detect a heartbeat—which can be as early as six weeks.

A study from Monmouth University shows 54% of the public disagrees with the Supreme Court, which allowed the Texas law to go into effect. Andi Curry Grubb, state executive director for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska, and Sadie Brewer, a senior psychology student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln said they are opposed to the law.

Brooke Fullerton, parent life director at Youth for Christ, said she supports the law. Gov. Pete Ricketts tweeted support of the bill and said Nebraska is pro-life state.
