When does a joke go too far? In episode 5, Garrett discusses how dark humor has helped him take back power over difficult events in his life, and how comedians like Bill Burr and Shane Gillis are able to expertly craft jokes around uncomfortable topics. The couple address Kathy Griffin's Donald Trump publicity stunt, the difference between a dark joke and a shock statement, and why nobody can tell another person what they can't laugh at. Garrett recalls his first trip to the ER and his terrible experience with an inappropriate fire medic, and Melissa explores how Garrett edits his thoughts before speaking. The two discuss humanity's morality instinct, cancel culture, the importance of learning to be gracious with yourself and others, and how to take control of your thoughts. All of this and more, on episode 5 of Never Date a Therapist!
