Due to legal and political challenges, there’s the possibility that the proposed Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project may be canceled. And if so, Louisiana could be on the hook for close to $1 billion. Mitch Jurisich, Plaquemines Parish Councilmember & Chairman of the Oyster Task Force, who is strongly opposed to the project due to the influx of fresh water it will bring into the Barataria Basin (which will severely affect oyster and shrimp populations in that area), will join the Sheriff to discuss.
