Hey, what's up? Here we are with today's News Bites… I'm Trevor Tortomasi… And I'm Paz Bueno. In today's news: What's a marten? Matcha bread is the best… the b… Matcha bread is the best bread, and a man lives with fish for a while! …and a man lives with a fish for a while. Stay tuned for more on those stories, coming up next… ________________________________ 黃喉貂在台灣現蹤 Formosan Yellow-Throated Marten Seen in Taiwan Wait… what's a marten? Is it a bird? No, that's not right… I have a friend named "Martin"… no, that's not right either… A marten (貂) is an animal that lives in many parts of Asia (亞洲). Martens look like weasels (黃鼠狼), but are a little bigger, and have long, bushy tails (又長又濃密的尾巴). They're super cute, but they're actually ferocious hunters! And one kind of Marten, called the "Formosan yellow-throated marten" (台灣黃喉貂), is very rare. In fact, people thought martens in Taiwan were extinct (滅絕的)! That's because martens' homes in the forest have gotten smaller, as Taiwan's cities get bigger. But recently, a marten has been seen again in Taiwan. The marten was seen on Wuling Farm (武陵農場), in the Taichung mountains, near the middle of Taiwan. The farm is now asking people in Taiwan to please NOT touch a marten if they see one. It's important that we give these rare animals a safe environment. But all of this is still great news for animal conservation It means we can still protect Taiwan's martens! ________________________________ 最棒的麵包是什麼顏色? What Color is the Best Bread? One of the biggest bread competitions in the UK has a new winner! The best bread in the UK is… …green? It's called… lemme try this… "Brioche Japonaise". In French (法文), that basically means… uh… Japanese bread. And that's because it was made by a baker (麵包師) named Miyo, from Japan! Miyo moved to Europe (歐洲) many years ago, and learned how to make different kinds of bread, cakes, and cookies. And when she moved to England, she wanted to share more of her Japanese culture and heritage. So Miyo made her bread with matcha (抹茶), which made the bread green! Of course, if you live in Asia, you have probably eaten matcha before. It's made from tea leaves, that people grind into a powder. You can find it in bread, drinks, and even candy. But in England, this is a pretty big victory (蠻大的勝利) for the matcha flavor. Some of the competition judges (比賽的評審) said they have never before seen a winner like this green matcha bread. Maybe this means more people in England will start to try something new! ________________________________ 佛羅里達州男人在水下破紀錄 Florida Man Breaks Record Underwater How long can a person stay underwater? Well, some people can hold their breath (屏住呼吸) for more than 10 minutes… that's a long time! But people underwater have another problem, too. The deeper we go underwater, the more we can feel the water pressure. But one man in the US wants to see how long he can take it (要看能忍多久). This man has already spent 80 days underwater. Well… he's in a room with air… but that room is still 10 meters below the water's surface And the air still has a lot of pressure (壓力), which can be hard on the human body. But he says he wants to keep going! He started on March 1st, and he says he wants to stay underwater for at least 100 days. He says this can help people understand how humans can live in extreme environments. But hopefully we can just keep living on land! ________________________________ So, in today's News Bites: A marten is a weasely animal that lives in many parts of Asia.
