San Francisco has quietly lowered the standards of its homeless relocation program, allowing individuals to be bused out of town without previous requirements such as verifying they have a contact or support system at the destination. With shelters at 96% capacity, the city has resorted to extreme measures, prioritizing busing homeless individuals out of the city over providing other services. Critics argue that this approach merely shifts the problem elsewhere, as many of these individuals struggle with deep-rooted issues like addiction and mental illness. Instead of addressing the core causes of homelessness, San Francisco is simply moving the problem out of sight, potentially burdening other cities with the same challenges.
