By Newsbreak Producer Matthew Veeran - According to the European Union (EU) popular social media platform Twitter has pulled out of the EU's voluntary code to fight disinformation. The code aims to prevent profiteering from disinformation and fake news and also looks to curb the spread of bots and fake accounts. The EU's internal market commissioner Thierry Breton announced the news on Twitter, while also warning that the new laws would force compliance. Twitter will be legally required to fight disinformation in the EU from the 25th of August this year but they have not confirmed a stance on the code or responded to a request for comment.
