Jeremy Skibicki, who stands charged with the brutal murders of three First Nations women—Rebecca Contois, 24; Morgan Harris, 39; and Marcedes Myran, 26—as well as an unidentified woman named Mashkode Bizhiki'ikwe, or Buffalo Woman, by community leaders. Believed to be in her 20s and Indigenous, Buffalo Woman's tragic fate remains a reminder of the systemic violence faced by Indigenous women in Canada.
Rebecca Contois is thought to have been the last of the women killed, with her death occurring around May 14 or 15, 2022. The case took a pivotal turn when Skibicki was apprehended on May 17, one day after police discovered Rebecca’s partial remains in garbage bins near his North Kildonan apartment. Further investigations led to the discovery of more of her remains at a Winnipeg landfill.
Prosecutors argue that these heinous acts were not random but intentional and racially motivated. They contend that Skibicki preyed on vulnerable Indigenous women at Winnipeg homeless shelters before brutally ending their lives and disposing of their bodies in garbage bins.
Join us as we uncover the details of this tragic case, examining the broader issues of racial violence and systemic failures that continue to endanger Indigenous communities.
