Goodness, pureness, and virtue are held up as ideals of high praise among our society, but where do such states come from? It can seem an odd question to consider how someone becomes “pure” and yet, the method has changed drastically in the past few centuries. As we collectively worship these states of imagined perfection, we also willfully condemn those who have actions in their past seen to permanently ban them from such a status.
But, where is the value in learned experiences? Is a life devoid of knowledge actually better than one where a person has chosen goodness and overcome adversity?
Especially when choosing leaders and heads of authority, are we not making a mistake in insisting only the unsullied can apply?
In this episode we explore these and other ideas around the relatively new concepts of purity. You may just be surprised to find how outside of the norm our modern ideas can seem when looking to the understandings of our ancestors.
