The story of Ananias and Saphira is one of the saddest in the Bible. Why is it so sad? Because of the outcome. Both Ananias and Saphira died because of their sinful scheme and lying hearts. They lied about what they did and God punished them for it. In some ways, God’s judgment may seem overly harsh to us, but there was lots at stake in the early days of the church and God cannot be mocked. The story of Ananias and Saphira teaches us sobering lessons about sin, judgment and God’s omniscience.
