Half of all Americans are experiencing the beginning of a week-long heat wave in the Eastern states. Temperatures have soared to over 90 degrees, and have even approached 100 degrees in some areas. In California, meanwhile, firefighters are battling two wildfires that are spreading rapidly.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved the country's six-member war cabinet. This came after opposition party leader Benny Gantz withdrew from the cabinet and criticized Mr. Netanyahu's approach to the war in Gaza. Mr. Netanyahu is now likely to be even more heavily dependent on his nationalist allies to govern.

President Joe Biden has met with the Secretary General of NATO in Washington. In July, NATO plans to unveil a new agreement to provide training and speed up the delivery of military aid to Ukraine. The alliance also reportedly plans to take nuclear weapons out of storage and place them on standby. Russia has condemned the move, and called it another escalation.

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has called for warning labels that would regularly remind parents and teenagers that social media has not been proven safe. He said social media has become an significant contributor to the mental health crisis among young people.
