In 1798, Congress passed the Sedition Act, making it a federal crime to publish false, scandalous or malicious writing about the United States government.The revolt, which was scheduled to take place on July 14, would have seen up to 9,000 Black men from throughout the region kill any White man they encountered.some enslaved Black people privy to Vesey’s plans told their enslavers about the plot.In 1945, Italy formally declared war on Japan, its former Axis partner during World War II.In 1960, 26-year-old Jane Goodall first arrived Tanzania to begin her study of the wild chimpanzees living there.In 2004, the Senate scuttled a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
