- “Jesus was bearing the terrible torments of a condemned and lost man.” John Calvin
- Romans 8:32
- 2 Corinthians 5:21
- Galatians 3:13
- 1 Peter 2:24
- 1 John 2:2
- Isaiah 53:4-6
- It can’t mean that the Father ceased to love the Son
- Isaiah 53:10a (NKJV translation)
- It can’t mean that the Holy Spirit ceased to minister to the Son
- John 1:32
- Hebrews 9:14
- It can’t mean that the Son doubted the Father
- Even in our greatest despair, we can cry out to God
- Matthew 27:46
- Even in our greatest despair, we can trust God is still in control

- Facing mocking and insults: Psalm 22:6-8

- Divided up clothes and cast lots: Psalm 22:18
