The local Fine Gael contest for the next General Election is starting to heat up.

Nominations for the party's selection convention are set to open shortly and a number of hopefuls have already expressed their intentions to seek nomination.

The party's selection convention in Sligo/Leitrim is set to take place on September 1st.

Sitting Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has already confirmed that he will be looking to retain his seat while Sligo Drumcliff Cllr Thomas Walsh has indicated to Ocean FM news today that he's actively considering a nomination and is currently liaising with his Fine Gael members and his campaign team.

Former TD John Perry announced that he's also giving the idea serious consideration on North West Today.

To Donegal now where it's widely anticipated that newly appointed Fine Gael Senator Nikki Bradley will selected as a candidate for the next election.

The disability rights campaigner was appointed Senator by Taoiseach Simon Harris in recent weeks and it's expected that she will replace outgoing Deputy Joe McHugh on the party ticket.

Fine Gael traditionally runs two candidates in the Donegal constituency and in further developments today, the Donegal Ladies Football Manager John McNulty has also indicated that he's is considering seeking nomination from the party:
