Today is the middle of the Bank Holiday weekend, where not much news is coming out, hence the skipped day yesterday! Mostly we have seen party leaders come out to try and defend their campaign styling even while parroting the same robotic touchstones that they have been leaning on thus far.

Stories of the Day:

  • EU demands 'serious UK response' on citizens' rights European Council President Donald Tusk has called on the UK to come up with a "serious response" on what will happen to EU citizens in Britain after Brexit. • Labour party pledges to outlaw all zero-hours contracts Labour has pledged to ban all zero-hours contracts, put a halt to unpaid internships and end the pay cap on public sector staff in "an unashamedly leftwing pitch" (Guardian) to British workers. The package includes promises to increase the minimum wage to match the national living wage, which is expected to reach £10 an hour by 2010.

  • Theresa May Refuses To Accept Government Responsible For Nurses Using Food Banks The prime minister was repeatedly challenged this morning by the BBC’s Andrew Marr over Royal College of Nursing figures that show some nurses have had a 14% pay cut since 2010 and are having to resort to using food banks in order to eat. "That is not the kind of country you want to run is it?" he asked. “We have nurses going to food banks, that must be wrong?” However May insisted there were “many complex reasons why people go to food banks” and that she wanted “a country that works for everyone not just the privileged few”.

  • David Cameron buys £25,000 garden shed 'to write in'
