As a child Evita began every diary entry with “Dear Lord” and a sincere desire to know Him. Yet she did not receive the answers to the theological questions she wrestled with as a teenager. Like many young people who have been raised in a legalistic faith, she went to college and saw others having fun “without” guilt and desired that lifestyle as well. For over a decade she created her own moral values, only to find that everything else is just a poor substitute for Jesus. Through the next decade God worked methodically in Evita through her husband and their children to bring her back to church and finally make her faith her own. Although she initially felt like a fraud and not “good enough” to be there, God slowly and graciously revealed the truth of the gospel that Evita (and all of us) would never be “good enough” and yet He loves us anyway through His son. This story is one of God’s longsuffering and desire to bring us back to Him; His unconditional love for us and that He who began a good work in us will see it through to completion.
