Jonathan Hickory and trauma knew each other well. Childhood trauma coupled with on-the-job trauma as a police officer crippled Jonathan and compelled him to turn to alcohol as an escape.

“Police officers see the darkest moments in peoples’ lives in this fallen world,” Jonathan said in his book, Break Every Chain, which was made into a movie of the same name.

A Christian family’s response to their own pain and suffering made Christianity look intriguing, but Jonathan was so plagued with alcohol addiction that he didn’t have true eyes to see.
“The more I drank, the further I withdrew from God. Angry outbursts became a daily activity for me. I was dying inside.”
More pain and trauma followed Jonathan until his wife’s desperate plea for him to join her at church. That day he heard that God has the final word on pain with a message from 1 Peter that compelled Jonathan to saving faith.
"Jesus help me become the man my family needs me to be. Forgive me for what I've done. Help heal our wounds. Help me fix this mess I made please. As he slowly started saying yes to Jesus, his alcohol addiction abated and his marriage was restored.
Today's Sendoff features Liv LeDuc with a poem in honor of Jonathan's story
