Dune-ul lui Frank Herbert ocupă un loc special în inimile gamerilor. În 1992, Westwood Studios se înhăma să adapteze filmul din 1984 marca David Lynch. O încercare titanică la acea vreme. Nu doar pentru că povestea romanului este din punct de vedere stilistic imposibil de transpus într-o rețetă clasică de gameplay, ci și pentru că Dune a lui Lynch a fost practic îngropat de recenziile negative, pe bună dreptate.
Și totuși, Dune a dat naștere unui nou gen de joc video, cel de strategie.
