They have been the greatest source of comfort for ages. The Psalms are a place to offer our purest, most raw emotions before the Lord in an act of worship. Our pain and disappointment is not going to offend God, even if it is directed at Him. The Psalms give us language to meet Him in our anger and our gladness.
