Is it okay to be emotional? Is it okay to let it out?

Should we really be regulating our emotions constantly and what emotions, if any, deserve to be expressed?

This week on Our Stories Within, I’m navigating my own feelings, my own emotional story within and inviting you to tag along. My family is approaching a period of change as we prepare for a big move, and I’m not going to lie: there’s been a wave of different emotions. This experience, combined with a recent client session, has me thinking: how many of us have been taught to suppress our emotions, to minimize them, or to regulate them to the point of not feeling anything?

Whether you’re an emotional person letting it out every day or bottling it up tight as can be, or whether you consider yourself level-headed and unemotional, come explore with me! Life is meant to be lived and I think we’ll find out that includes feeling our feelings.

I’m exploring:

  • Our lifelong training of “safe” emotions and those we’re taught to keep inside

  • Why it’s good to meet your emotions with understanding and compassion

  • How suppressing the anger means suppressing the joy

  • Why minimizing emotions can lead to feelings of “blah” about everything

  • How emotion suppressing is tied to our ability to receive compliments

  • And much more emotional goodness!
