Since the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden, God has had a plan to reach and redeem a lost world through a people chosen, called-out and set apart for that special purpose. Over the course of this year, we will trace the development of His plan from the call of a single man named Abraham to the birth of a nation called Israel -and from the life of Christ (the ultimate expression of God's work) to the continuation of His plan through the church. The Apostle Peter bridges over 6 millennium of God's blue-print from the book of Genesis, right up into our modern times when he writes that we, "are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9). Long before the establishment of the church and even before God would call a nation out of the darkness, we discover in Genesis that He planted the seeds of that purpose in the hearts of men. Through their lives we get our first glimpse of what it means to be chosen (Abraham), called out (Jacob), and set-apart (Joseph). Through their challenges, breakthroughs and even their setbacks we are invited to recognize what it takes to live "the called out" life in our modern times.
