In today’s podcast, Nicola and Judith discuss how to evaluate an opportunity. Nicola has the chance to speak at a live event in Brisbane in June. Should she go? What’s the best way to help her make up her mind?
In the Show..
Spring is sprung in the UK and Judith waxes lyrical about grass and birds and blossom and laundry blowing on the washing line, and it being the sort of weather and the quality of light and sunshine that makes you want to wash windows and clean cars. Nicola’s done two webinars this week and, despite a Camtasia crash, she’s found a way to make an ad spend of £38 convert into a sale of £94. Yay! The holy grail of online marketing achieved.
- What’s Fuelled Their Fire?
Nicola has been reminding herself how much she loves to create online courses and Judith’s excited about a new client who came via a referral from a long-time client, and some positive feedback by way of testimonials and fabulous replies to her weekly newsletter. What more could a writer want?
- Client Challenge/Opportunity of the Week
This week’s challenge is Nicola’s. She could go and speak on a stage in Brisbane but how is she to evaluate that opportunity, given the very long travel slog and the pressure to sell to make the trip pay for her and her sponsor?
Together J&N look at the pros and cons of the offer and attempt to clear some of the limiting beliefs about Nicola’s ability to sell from the stage, and lack of clarity around the destination and the event itself, including the size of the audience. Judith also suggests Nicola might look at “invisible wins” where there are other benefits over and above the obvious ones, or even consider going just for the craic. Life, after all, is for the living and this might be yet another brave adventure. That might just take the pressure off and allow Nicola to make a happy decision.
- Words of the Week
Nicola chooses Anticipation and Judith picks Surrender.
- Project Updates – All About the Podcast
On 10th March the show had double the usual downloads. Since that date was a Friday, the day the podcast goes live, and the show was about Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours, that makes sense perhaps.
- Who or What’s Impressed?
Judith is impressed by a multi-lingual hard-working Rumanian she met last weekend and who reminded her of a quote by Mark Twain “Principles have no real force except when one is well fed”. Nicola talks about captions for Facebook videos using a You Tube facility and recommends Trint.com for transcriptions. Trint produces a first draft of the words from audio or video content for you to edit.
