Camille Saint-Saëns spelade piano från tre års ålder. Den formella debuten skedde i Salle Pleyel i Paris då han var 10 år gammal, med pianokonserter av Beethoven och Mozart. 1848 började Saint-Saëns på Pariskonservatoriet, där han studerade orgel, komposition och orkestrering. Saint-Saëns musikaliska förmåga gjorde att han vann både vänskap och beskydd av bl.a. Gounod, Rossini och Berlioz. När Liszt hörde Saint-Saëns improvisera på orgel hyllade han honom som den störste organisten i världen. Mer information på sverigesradio.se/p2
