Vladimir Horowitz var en av 1900-talets största pianister. Horowitz pianorullar är de nyaste i vår serie och spelades in på 1920-talet, då 78-varvarna redan hade slagit igenom stort. När Horowitz var nio år började han på Kievkonservatoriet. Hans lärare var elever till Theodor Leschetizky och Anton Rubinstein. Vid Tysklandsdebuten 1928, i Tjajkovskijs första pianokonsert, förundrade han publiken med en kaskad av oktaver. Horowitz hade hela sitt liv problem med nerverna och medicinerade kraftig en period, vilket påverkade hans spel. De sista åren återfick han hälsan och spelade åter med glädje, kanske tyckte han att han inte behövde bevisa något längre. Horowitz ansågs ständigt vara den främste interpreten av Liszt, Schumann, Skrjabin och Rachmaninov. Mer information på sverigesradio.se/p2
