Tune in to Episode 21 of the PA Talks series with Kengo Kuma, a Japanese architect, founder of Kengo Kuma and Associates, and professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Tokyo. After graduating in Architecture from the University of Tokyo in 1979, he worked for a time at Nihon Sekkei & Toda Corporation and then shifted to New York to enroll at Columbia University as a visiting researcher from 1985 to 1986. In 1990, he established his own firm, Kengo Kuma & Associates. His approach has been recognized for reviving and revitalizing the traditional Japanese values and customs by blending them well with the modernistic approach of the current times. Kuma’s projects combine materials and their emotional connectivity with Japanese traditions. His projects include The Exchange, Odunpazarı Museum, Sunny Hills, Japan National Stadium, Suntory Museum for Art, and many more. He has also taught at Columbia University, the University of Illinois, and Keio University, where in 2008, he was awarded a Ph.D. in architecture.
