Dionne Woods of the Paint Talks Podcast chats with Melanie Hamann of Art by Melanie. She is an Oklahoma artist with a lifelong love of creating, teaching, and possibilities. She currently resides in western Oklahoma with her 8-year-old rescue dog Ruby. For many years, while her children were young, designing stage backdrops and floats kept that creative fire alive. While her medium of choice is generally acrylic paintings, mixed media, watercolor, and pen and ink are a very close second. Heavily inspired by music, she sees anything as a potential canvas, including guitars, violins, and cases which are some of her favorites to paint. Melanie teaches both online and in-person classes, assisting others as they find their own magic.

Art has been Melanie’s saving grace through an incredibly difficult marriage and subsequent divorce. When words fail art is there. The most important thing that she has learned in her art journey is that creating heals, it allows time away from difficult situations, and provides a rest for your soul and the ability to remember who you are. Melanie has met so many wonderful people through the years with amazing stories of strength and residency, many of which she would never have met without art.
