Molti anni fa viveva un imperatore che amava tanto vestire con abiti sempre nuovi e stravaganti. Ogni suo avere lo impegnava ad acquistare vestiti eleganti. Possedeva un vestito per ogni ora del giorno. Nella grande città in cui regnava giungevano ogni giorno molti stranieri tessitori e sarti. Tutti proponevano un vestito nuovo all’imperatore, ed egli acquistava quel che offrivano. Un giorno arrivarono due sarti impostori: si fecero passare per tessitori e sostennero di saper tessere e cucire la stoffa più sottile, più resistente e bella che mai si potesse immaginare.
