Today I want to talk to you about the cave of distress. Both Elijah and David found themselves here, and then the Lord brought them out. These stories in the Word reveal to us God's pattern for release, freedom from the wearing of distress. 1 Kings 19:8-9 (NKJV), So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God. And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" Elijah is frustrated, weary, discouraged, things didn't work the way he imagined. He's alone, falsely accused, treated unfairly. Just before this trip he asked the Lord to take his life. Done. Distressed. Lowest place of his life. We all hit low times. Paul talked about afflicted even unto death, Daniel is chucked in with lions for praying. The Bible is full of stories of being treated unfairly, ostracized, left alone and for dead, even our Jesus. And in each situation, as the Lord called them out, then lifted them up, they were elevated, launched to new heights, like a tightly wound spring they were released by the Lord and found new success, going higher than they imagined. This is what is in store for you today...
