In this new Pride month podcast Paul chats with Karen Solt, now retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer who served in the Navy from 1984 to 2006. Those service dates mean she began her service before “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and continued after the adoption of that policy. Growing up in a small conservative town, Karen didn’t realize or understand that she was gay until she enlisted requiring her to deal with the need to hide to survive. She details her life experience in “Hiding for My Life: Being Gay in the Navy.” This is a story of resilience and the power of dedication and spirit in a search for self.
