Call to Worship: Psalm 29 (NIV)

1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.7 The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever.11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 139: 1-7, 13-17, 23-24 (NIV)

1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!23 Search me,God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Sermon Text: Hebrews 4:12-13 (NIV)

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
